Workshop Overview

shamanic drumming

The Way of the Shaman® is the essential introductory workshop in Core Shamanism, developed by anthropologist Michael Harner and taught worldwide for more than 40 years. This experiential training introduces participants to the universal and near-universal shamanic methods used across cultures to enter non-ordinary reality for problem-solving, empowerment, and healing.

A central focus of the workshop is the shamanic journey—a method for exploring the hidden universe known primarily through myth and dream. Through drumming and other traditional techniques, participants learn to shift into the shamanic state of consciousness, awaken dormant spiritual abilities, and reconnect with the wisdom of Nature.

You will be introduced to shamanic divination, healing practices, and the classic method of journeying to meet your own helping spirits. Participants also learn how the shamanic journey is used to restore power and well-being, and how these ancient methods can be applied in contemporary life to support healing for oneself, others, and the planet.

This workshop is highly experiential, with opportunities to share discoveries, compare journeys, and deepen your understanding through direct personal practice.

What You Will Learn

  • How to enter the shamanic state of consciousness using drumming
  • How to journey to the Lower and Upper Worlds to meet your helping spirits
  • How to work with power animals and teachers in nonordinary reality
  • The basics of shamanic divination for insight
  • How to use journeying for personal healing, guidance, and empowerment
  • How to apply shamanism to everyday life for yourself and others
  • The ethical foundation and core principles of Core Shamanism
  • How to restore spiritual power and well-being through classic shamanic techniques

What Makes Core Shamanism Different

Core Shamanism, as developed by Michael Harner, focuses on the near-universal and universal methods and practices of shamanism found across different cultures. It is:

Experiential — you learn by doing, not by belief

Non-dogmatic — no religion, hierarchy, or ideology

Safe & tested — methods researched and taught for over 40 years

Cross-cultural — honors the essence of shamanic practice without cultural appropriation

Practical — designed for modern life and real-world guidance

Ethical — rooted in integrity and respect for each individual

Core Shamanism gives people direct access to spiritual guidance
without intermediaries, rituals, or belief systems
through the classic shamanic journey methods.

3. Late Arrivals / No-Shows

No refunds or credits are available for:

  • Participants are expected to arrive on time to maintain the integrity of the group container and the continuity of the training. Arriving more than 15 minutes late is considered a no-show. No refunds or credits will be offered, and you may not join the remaining sessions. Exception for Unforeseen Circumstances: In rare situations beyond your control—such as severe or unexpected weather conditions, transportation disruptions, or other genuine emergencies—please contact Mira as soon as possible. Exceptions may be made at the instructor’s discretion, depending on the safety, timing, and impact on the group.
  • Because this workshop is experiential and each session builds on the next, all sessions must be attended in full. If you miss any portion of the workshop — including a full session or an extended portion of a session — it will be considered a missed session. No refunds, credits, or transfers are offered for missed sessions. For safety, continuity, and group integrity, participants who miss a session may not rejoin the remaining training, and will not qualify for FSS credit or advanced workshop eligibility.
  • No-Shows. A “no-show” is defined as not attending the workshop without prior notice. No refunds, credits, or transfers are offered for no-shows. Participants who do not attend the first session of Day 1 may not join the remaining sessions and will not receive FSS credit or eligibility for advanced training. This policy ensures the safety, continuity, and integrity of the experiential group process.

4. Energetic & Logistical Considerations

To maintain a safe and clear energetic container, and to properly prepare materials and group structure, all cancellations or transfer requests must be submitted in writing.
